What to Blog AboutWhat To Blog About Everyday?

What to blog about when you are just starting out or even if you have been blogging for some time?

In this post today I will share with you some blogging ideas of where you can get great content for you blog so that you never run out of ideas again.

So many people like the idea of blogging but they have no idea what to blog about or where to start.

So lets look at some of the things you can do to start get great content out on a daily basis that is fresh and on subjects your readers will want to know about. This will also show you how to build a successful blog so that people will return time and again.

What to Blog About – 5 Places To Look

I will list below the 5 top places you can look to get great content ideas so you know exactly what to blog about.

  • Keyword Research
  • Yahoo Answers
  • Webinar/Conference Call Review
  • Product Review
  • Journal

Keyword Research – First place I would suggest is do some keyword research and find out what people are searching for on the internet. You will know exactly what words people are searching for plus the exact keyword that is typed into Google.

Yahoo Answers – This is a great place to go and see what questions people want answering. You can type in a topic and find questions based around that topic, write a post about it and share it on the site.

Webinar/Conference Call Review – This is a great one for sharing your knowledge with others from what you learn on these calls and training. It really is well worth attending these as much as possible, not only to change your mindset and hang out with like minded people but to also come up with fresh content ideas. Just remember to give credit where credit is due.

Product Review – Got a great product or tool that you are using? Then write a review about it and share you experience with it with the world. This is one of the easiest posts to write, but you must use it first. Don’t write a fake review about something as people will see right through that.

Journal – This is a new one on me but start writing a journal and you will build lots of things that you can put into a story that relates to your business. People love reading stories about other people so you will get lots of response from this type of post.

What to Blog About Overview

So now you have lots of ideas about what to write about for your blog. All of them should be mixed around so you are not just doing the same thing over and over again.

A blog is a weblog so really it’s an only diary of what you do each day and what you learn. Yes they have moved on in recent years to become full training sites but the principle stays the same.

Getting fresh content onto your blog is always going to please Google, so work everyday to get as much content on there as possible. Just make sure that it is quality content that people will want to read.

Become part of that elite group who are working from home and have the time freedom so many seek. Here is a video that offers you all the tools you need to see the success you are deserving of.

short post vs long post

As a blogger, you determine the length of your post based on how much you want to convey. There’s also your blog niche to consider – some subjects are too deep to be justified with short posts. You have to also consider your reader base and what they expect from you. Even with all these points, the holy blog war between short posts and long posts is still on. What kind of post is better, the long post or the short post? Both have their pros and cons, as explained below.

Short Posts

Many bloggers recommend short, crisp posts using powerful sentences. The idea is to grab enough of the reader’s attention to deliver a good-sized punch in a short time. Are short posts the answer then?

Short Posts – Pros

  1. Short posts of 300 words or less are best for those who want to grab as much information as possible within a short period. Such people prefer short posts that convey the blogger’s intent neatly without taking up their time.
  2. Short posts are best suited for people constantly on the move, who just want to catch up on their favorite topics quickly.
  3. Short posts take much less time to write, and are therefore more blogger-friendly. If you’re the kind of blogger who has to deal with writer’s block and time constraints, short posts are the best.
  4. When you write short posts, you can upload more often, keeping your readers more engaged with your blog.
  5. If you have several ideas about a topic, you can explore them all in a series of short posts. This method works well for pageviews.
  6. A well written short post can deliver a quick yet powerful punch, and gets to the point without overlapping or boring the reader.
  7. Short posts don’t do justice to topics that need to be explored in greater detail, such as technical topics, to-do topics and so on. In such cases, a short post looks like a teaser, making your readers look for the rest of the content.
  8. Short posts don’t deliver on value; it takes about a 100 words to flesh out an idea and to deliver it within the next couple of 100 words doesn’t make reading sense.
  9. It is hard to explore an idea in full using a short post, enough to get one’s audience to start thinking and responding thoughtfully. It would take at least 500 words just to cover the context of a topic; it definitely takes much more to get people thinking.

Short Posts – Cons

Long Posts

Many top bloggers recommend the use of long posts over short posts when it comes to conveying core information. Now that we’ve discussed the pros and cons of short posts, let’s take a look at what’s the deal with long posts.

Long Posts – Pros

  1. When you want to tell a story in detail and provide some truly comprehensive information to your reader, you write a long post. Yes, people do need to invest more time to read such posts, but these are the kind that they bookmark and read time and again.
  2. Long posts can be used to challenge the way people think. They can make a difference to people’s lives by digging deep into issues and providing solutions.
  3. Long posts allow the blogger to develop deep and meaningful relationships with their reader base. This is because readers can perceive more of your personality and evaluate your opinions.
  4. Long posts provide a learning opportunity for both the blogger and the reader, and enable them to learn and grow together.
  5. Long posts get better comments and a more loyal readership than short posts.
  6. Long posts take longer to write; the blogger has to really gear up to sit down and deliver all their thoughts at a stretch. This takes hard work, dedication and real commitment to one’s reader base.
  7. Unless the blogger makes the post really interesting, they’ll lose the reader halfway into a long post, given low attention spans of readers.
  8. It’s not easy to write long posts and the average blogger could end up putting away the task, which might make them miss posting schedules. Readers will know when a blogger is not happy to write and the blog will lose readership over time.
  9. Readers usually scan long posts and decide if they are worth reading or not. In many cases, readers bookmark long posts and forget to get back to them.
  10. Long posts require good writing skills; there’s nothing worse than a sloppily written long post that rambles, pontificates, digresses and theorizes ad infinitum ad nauseum. So if you don’t have the right skills, short, succinct posts work better for you than longer ones.

Long Posts – Cons

Social Media Marketing Tips

In these social media marketing tips I will show you how you can get the best out of Facebook to grow your business.

Facebook is a monster of a site with over 800 million users and rising. So it’s fair to say that there is a very large market to tap into.

Facebook is really broken down into two parts, you have your personal profile and your have Like Pages.

You profile is the place where people can get to know who you are and your Like Page should be used for your business.

I want to talk about each one of these in more detail to give you some social media marketing tips that will help you with your business.

Social Media Marketing Tips for Facebook

Facebook Profile – This has a limit of 5000 friends which is more than enough for anybody. Your profile is going to be the first place people look when they want to find out who you are so make sure you have added plenty of content about your life. There is nothing worse than going to somebody’s profile and they haven’t taken the time to fill it out.

Since most people use their Facebook profile for business, which is against Facebook terms and conditions it really is important to set it up correctly the first time. Add pictures of you and your family, list your interests and hobbies. This is a great ice breaker with people and gives them something to connect with you with.

Having a Facebook profile will increase your social media presence online. However adding a Like Page into the mix will take it to a whole new level.

Like Pages – These are very different from your page and they can be used for business. There is no limit to the amount of Likes you have. Just to let you know Like Pages used to be called Fan Pages. The cool thing about Like Pages is that they are listed in Google. You can set them up pretty much the same as your profile and you should give as much detail as possible to get your name and brand in front of a many people as possible.

With a like page you can add different apps like Youtube and Twitter. I would also add NetworkedBlogs as this will import your latest blog post directly onto your Like Page wall so that everyone who has liked your page can see it.

One of the new features with Like Pages is that you can use Facebook as your Like profile. This will allow you to post on other  people like pages, obviously don’t go round spamming your content on their wall as they will not be too impressed with you. Post things like inspirational quotes and comment on their content and this will attract more likes to you own page.

In summary of these social media marketing tips add a plugin to your blog so people can like your page right off your blog. I have found this to be a great way of add new people to my own page.

As with anything on social media, always lead with value and give people want they want. Facebook and all the other social media sites are a great place to meet new people. Just remember to build your relationship first and business second.

Become part of that elite group who are working from home and have the time freedom so many seek. Here is a video that offers you all the tools you need to see the success you are deserving of.

Best Social Networking Sites

Where are the best social networking sites to be found for you online business?

Well in this post I am going to share with you the top 3 sites you must be using to build your business online.

These sites should be part of your social media marketing plan and all of them are used in pretty much that same way. By that I mean the content you share would be the same for all 3 sites and the way you interact with other users would be the same.

Obviously there will be differences in the way the sites work but most of them are pretty much the same, with the same sort of functions.

So the 3 best social networking sites are:

  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn
  • Twitter

3 Best Social Networking Sites Explained

Facebook – This is the king of social networking with something like over 800 million users. You can pretty much do anything you like on this site, within reason of course. This is a great place for social media branding as you can set up groups and Fan pages. Pages are listed in Google so they can be a very powerful tool.

You can set up your profile so that people can see who you are and what you can do. You can connect with millions of people from around the world who share similar interests to you.  However there is a certain way to act on Facebook if you want to see results. More on that in a bit.

LinkedIn – This is a very similar site to Facebook but it is more targeted towards business minded people. You will see a lot of the same people on LinkedIn as you do on Facebook, however the etiquette is very different.

The level of junk spam that you find on Facebook is less on LinkedIn although it seems to be creeping up over the last 6 months or so.

Twitter – This site is very different than the other but it is one of the best social networking sites around at the moment. It is more like a mine blog where you can post anything up to 140 characters long.   There is a lot of spam on Twitter which makes it such a great place to stand out from the crowd.

Twitter is great for getting back links to your blog or website and for finding people in your niche who you would like to connect with.

Best Social Networking Sites Etiquette

With all 3 sites I have mentioned there are a couple of things you need to know before you head off, set up your profile and start telling the world about your great product and business.

Social networking sites are there for people to meet new people. The biggest problem is that people tend to sit behind the computer screen and think it’s OK to spam the links everywhere.  Remember these are really people and they don’t care about how great your opportunity is.

Start by building relationships with people first, find out what they currently do for a living, there family, what hobbies and interests they have. Once you have built that relationship then you can introduce them to you business if it’s the right thing to do.

If you always lead with value and show a genuine interest in other people this will increase your social media influence across all 3 sites.

So that is my 3 best social networking sites that you can use as part of your  social media success in building your business.

Become part of that elite group who are working from home and have the time freedom so many seek. Here is a video that offers you all the tools you need to see the success you are deserving of.
