You might be thinking what content SEO is and is it really that important that it could affect my SEO positioning? The content you place on your articles and your blog and the manner in which you do this will absolutely affect where you end up on the search engines.

Keyword Research – In most cases it’s a lack of it or not understanding how to do it correctly. I have had people tell me they are in the number 1 spot on Google for a keyword, and sure enough they are. However that key has no searches each month so it’s pretty much useless.
Keyword research is the foundation to your SEO strategies and you must take your time and use all the right tools. You might be able to find a good keyword with lots of searches each month and low competition in phrase match. However if that’s all you are looking at then you stand a good chance of not making page 1.
You need to look at the back links each site on page 1 has, what sort of page rank they have, how old the domain is, have they added the keyword to the description and title. These are more important than just looking at high searches with low competition.
Lack of Structure – Google loves structure and sticking to one type of niche at a time. If you are doing this then great, you will know the benefits. When I started this blog it was all over the place and my content SEO had no structure.
Once I started to group posts together and link them together Google started to reward me by first giving me better rankings on keywords and second giving me page rank. If you get some structure to even an older blog you will start to see massive benefits.
Over Use of Keywords – This is something I have seen time and again on so many sites and it is not doing the site any good what so ever. If you are writing a post and your keyword is “content SEO” then use that around once every 100 – 130 words adding long tailed keywords in between.
Don’t load your page up with 100s of keywords at the bottom of the post as this will just confuse Google and they will not have any idea what you are trying to rank for. You want to let Google know that’s the word you are targeting, so rank me for that one please Mr Google.
Incorrect Links – If you want a nice big slap from Google then make sure your links are broken! There is nothing worse than having broken links and Google will punish you for this so make sure all links work when you publish.
If you follow this content SEO advice you will be able to start to dominate Google for different keywords and as you gain authority for other keywords as well. By following these simple tips and tricks you will avoid the dreaded Google slap and save a lot on search engine optimization cost.
