MLM Mindset

I Really Can’t Believe I Used To Do This.

by Tristram Lodge on Jul.16, 2010, under MLM Mindset

I want to share with you something that I used to do to find prospects and build my business. To be honest looking back now I really can’t believe I used to do this but I did.

First up I want to tell you about the system I was using at the time. It had nothing to do with attraction marketing, but promoted my primary business and only really focused on trying to get people to join the business or sell them a product.

Once I had a prospect the system worked like this. I set it up to schedule in an appointment, they would pick a time and I would call them. Now you may well be thinking so far so good, they pick a time, they are expecting the call and I call them.

Hang on a minute, we’ve not got to the good part yet. The appointments were set to half an hour each, or you could go to an hour if you want.

The system worked like this, I would tell them to go to a website and log them into the website using a unique username and password. They would then follow my instruction and go through a slide show, clicking next when I asked them to. I would be reading the presentation over the phone from a pre-written script.

So I would call the person and start to build some rapport with them. I would then begin the presentation which would last for around 20 to 25 minutes. This would leave no much time for questions or building a relationship with that person.

Now I would get my leads from the job site Monster.com and these people would have no idea what to expect when I called. Most would listen but had no interest in starting a business, they were looking for a job.

Occasional I would get somebody who was interested and I actually signed up two people into my business. However they simply disappeared after a few weeks.

The point that I want to make is I was targeting the complete wrong market. A market that was looking for a job and not a business. A market which would run a mile when they knew it was MLM.

The system I was using was too time consuming, too focused on the business and products and very little focus on the person that matter most in the whole process….the prospect. It was a fishing trip, I might get a bite someday.

Knowing your market and what that market needs is so important. I think you will agree by reading this but so many people fall into this trap and continue to do the wrong thing. After a while I knew this wasn’t going to work and I found a much better way to build a business.

Was it a mistake to do what I did? Well no it was a good thing because I have learnt from it and more importantly I can share my experience with others who may be thinking of doing something similar.

All Work And No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy.

by Tristram Lodge on Jul.08, 2010, under MLM Mindset

It’s a statement that rings so true with me at the moment.

I have just returned from a fantastic 2 weeks trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where myself my wife and my son were visiting my brother and his wife.

They have lived out in the USA for 12 years now and with me being in the UK we don’t get to see that much of each other so I was really looking forward to the 2 weeks away.

Being away for 2 weeks I could still update my blog, check on my Facebook and reply to any messages I received.

Well that was the plan until my wife found me packing the laptop the night before we were to leave. Basically I had 2 options, the laptop or my wife and son.

No brainer really, but to be honest I thought how am I going to cope with my laptop for 2 whole weeks.

But to be honest I never thought about it once, no really, I was having way to much fun with the family to think about it which brings me on to my point.

If you are a full time earner with your network marketing business then you have a choice and more importantly an opportunity to spend your time how you wish.

Most people in their lives don’t get that opportunity. They are slaves to the bank manager and their boss.

So I’m glad my wife told me to leave the laptop at home and enjoy a holiday with my family. I have come back feeling fresh and recharged.

It’s shouldn’t be all about work, work, work. It’s about getting that balance between your family and your work. By spending as much time as you can with your family and letting your business take care of itself.

Day 4: What My Son Has Taught Me About MLM – Determination

by Tristram Lodge on Jun.11, 2010, under MLM Mindset

Welcome to day 4, the last day of what I have learnt from my son over the past year.

OK lets get started with todays post and I want to talk to you about determination and what it means to me and you in our network marketing business.

My son is coming up for 1 year old and he never crawled, but he is nearly walking. So much so that thats all he ever wants to do at the moment.

Through his determination he will be walking around unaided within the next couple of weeks. Yes he will fall over a the start and quite alot I will imagine but he will get back up, dust himself down and go again until he gets it right.

Day 3: What My Son Has Taught Me About MLM – Persistence

by Tristram Lodge on Jun.10, 2010, under MLM Mindset

Welcome to day 3 of what I have learnt from my son over the past year. If you missed yesterday “Day 2: What My Son Has Taught Me About MLM – Routine” follow the link to check it out.

On to today and we will be talking about persistence and how learning from our children and their persistence can help you with your business.

As we know children can be extremely persistence when the want something or when they are starting out learning how to do something. Thie thing that stands out for me with my son was when we switched him from drinking from a bottle to a becker.

Even when he was on his bottle he would try and grab the bottle from your hands and feed himself.

Eventually he got it right, why due to his persistence to learn how to hand the bottle and put it in his mouth.

If at first you don’t succeed, try again. That’s what you should be doing in your business. You will get knock back and there are things you will have no idea how to do but through your persistence you will achieve your goals.
